It says "Run regsvr32 HEICThumbnailHandler.dll". Which app do I select?
The first choice is Git for Windows. If I click it, it says "cannot execute binary file"

regsvr32 HEICThumbnailHandler.dll is a command you should run from a command prompt, eg.

I would suggest making a folder specifically to hold this .dll before registering it (eg. C:\HEICThumbnailHandler\), so that you aren't installing it directly in your Downloads folder.

  • Press Win+R
  • Type cmd
  • Click OK
  • Type cd C:\HEICThumbnailHandler\, Enter
  • Type regsvr32 HEICThumbnailHandler.dll, Enter

Thanks. I seem to have completed the steps correctly, however the majority of my HEIC files still do now have a thumbnail. Even some of the jpegs don't have a thumbnail. Maybe it's because my computer is not new and the images are in an external hard drive with thousands of photos and videos.
